PASSION FRANCE DOUK-DOUK POCKET KNIFE

The Douk-Douk is a legendary knife, whose story fills books. It is a very efficient knife of ingeniously simple design and consists of only six parts: a blade of fine-grained carbon steel, a handle of folded sheet metal, the backbone, which has the task of locking the blade in the open or closed state, Two rivets and a small strap at the end of the handle, where you can attach a safety strap

The Douk-Douk was designed by Gaston Cognet in 1928 to be a knife obtainable by all, that versatile and fuctional for everyday use. Another fellow by the name of Joseph Opinel had a similar plan a knife of the people around the same time, and not too far away!

Opinel had success in France, but Gaston found that his knife was more suited to the colonies. He travelled the French islands of micronesia and on one such trip he was introduced to the mythical figure ‘Douk Douk’, which gave the knife it’s name.

The knives are still made in France today, using many of the original tools and machines, by Gaston’s grandson, Pierre.
